FAQs

  • While we take applications all year-round, we have 3 intake periods: January, May and September.

  • The most common schools we accept students from include Yorkville University, Martin Luther University College/Laurier and City University.

However, if you are in the process to becoming a psychotherapist and plan on being registered with the CRPO, we’d love to consider your application!

  • While no trainings are required, we find that schools often lack documentation training, which is essential!

If you are interested in working with couples, we also recommend Gottman Training or EFT Training.

  • Yes! While most of our students practice virtually, we do have an in-person office located in Kitchener, ON.

  • As this is a virtual placement, your schedule is customizable! With that said, the expectation is that you are contributing 20-25 hours per week. Your shifts should be a minimum of 4 hours and you should be scheduled a minimum of 3 days per week, including a minimum 1 evening.

  • We expect students to see an average of 10–13 clients per week, which helps account for cancellations and no-shows. We recognize it may take some time to gradually build up to this caseload.

    • Monthly team meetings

    • Weekly office hours

    • Access to an extensive resource library

    • Admin support (Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm)

    • Ongoing communication with team (slack channels)

    • Intake and assessment interviews

    • Crisis intervention with clients

    • Providing psychoeducation directly to clients

Indirect hours: Time spent on activities that support client care and your development as a therapist, but not in direct contact with clients. As per Yorkville University’s practicum guidelines. Indirect hour opportunities that you can log in SONIA include:

    • All preparation activities directly related to client work

    • Observing counselling by another professional

    • Record keeping

With that said, while we cannot guarantee extended time off we strive to accommodate up to two weeks.

  • Yes, midway through practicum, all students are given the opportunity to interview for a contract position and explore future employment with Fancy Therapy.
