FAQs

When do you accept students?

While we take applications all year-round, we have 3 intake periods: January, May and September.

What schools do you accept students from?

The most common schools we accept students from include Yorkville University, Martin Luther University College/Laurier and City University.

However, if you are in the process to becoming a psychotherapist and plan on being registered with the CRPO, we’d love to consider your application!

What trainings do you recommend before starting practicum?

While no trainings are required, we find that schools often lack documentation training, which is essential!

If you are interested in working with couples, we also recommend Gottman Training or EFT Training.

Do you offer in-person opportunities?

Yes! While most of our students practice virtually, we are a hybrid practice. We have an in-person office located in Kitchener, ON, but we do not offer fully in-person–only placements.

What will my schedule look like?

As this is a virtual placement, your schedule is customizable! With that said, the expectation is that you are contributing 20-25 hours per week. Your shifts should be a minimum of 4 hours and you should be scheduled a minimum of 3 days per week, including a minimum 1 evening.

What does the average caseload look like?

We expect students to see an average of 10–13 clients per week, which helps account for cancellations and no-shows. We recognize it may take some time to gradually build up to this caseload.

What additional support does Fancy Therapy offer?

- Monthly team meetings

- Access to an extensive resource library

- Admin support (Monday - Friday, 9am-5pm)

- Ongoing communication with team (slack channels)

- Monthly training opportunities

- Professional growth

Do you offer contract positions following practicum?

Yes, midway through practicum, all students are given the opportunity to interview for a contract position and explore future employment with Fancy Therapy.

Can I take time off?

We do not recommend taking time off, especially during your first semester as being present during the initial months is important to support the process of building your caseload.

With that said, while we cannot guarantee extended time off we strive to accommodate up to two weeks.

As a psychotherapy practice based in Kitchener, Ontario, we acknowledge that our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabeg peoples. This land is part of the Haldimand Tract, which was promised to the Six Nations of the Grand River.

We recognize the longstanding relationships with the land that Indigenous peoples have maintained as its original caretakers. Our practice extends its services across Canada, and we acknowledge that our work spans many traditional Indigenous territories. We recognize that there are 46 treaties and other agreements that cover the territory now called Ontario. As we operate in various locations, we commit to learning about and respecting the specific Indigenous communities in each area where we provide our services.
