Fancy Therapy is seeking passionate and dedicated practicum students to join our innovative and inclusive mental health practice in Ontario. We offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive, growth-oriented environment while working with clients across the province. Program Overview
Our practicum program provides a comprehensive learning experience, training, personalized supervision, and a strong sense of community. We specialize in areas including ADHD, trauma, perinatal mental health, parenting support, and relationship therapy.
Requirements:
Enrolment in a Master's level CRPO-accredited program
Registered with the CRPO, regardless of where you live or plan to practice after placement
Completion of required coursework as deemed necessary by your program
Commitment to 200+ hours of Direct Client Contact (DCC). You need to dedicate 20-25 hours per week to your practicum, with some of those hours between 10 AM - 7 PM EST, including at least one evening per week.
Participation in 6 hours of training prior to practicum start date

Reliable remote setup: Private space, high-speed internet, computer with webcam & headphones

Due to the demanding nature of practicum, this practicum must be your only psychotherapy-related work during your placement—no private practice or additional placements without prior permission from Fancy Therapy & your supervisor.

While we take applications all year-round, we have 3 intake periods: January, May and September.

The most common schools we accept students from include Yorkville University, Martin Luther University College/Laurier and City University.
However, if you are in the process to becoming a psychotherapist and plan on being registered with the CRPO, we’d love to consider your application!

While no trainings are required, we find that schools often lack documentation training, which is essential!
If you are interested in working with couples, we also recommend Gottman Training or EFT Training.

Yes! While most of our students practice virtually, we do have an in-person office located in Kitchener, ON.

As this is a virtual placement, your schedule is customizable! With that said, the expectation is that you are contributing 20-25 hours per week. Your shifts should be a minimum of 4 hours and you should be scheduled a minimum of 3 days per week, including a minimum 1 evening.

We expect students to see an average of 10–13 clients per week, which helps account for cancellations and no-shows. We recognize it may take some time to gradually build up to this caseload.

Direct hours: If you are face-to-face (in person or virtual) with the client doing therapeutic work, it’s a direct hour. Examples of this include:
Individual, couple, family, or group counselling/therapy sessions
Intake and assessment interviews
Crisis intervention with clients
Providing psychoeducation directly to clients
Indirect hours: Time spent on activities that support client care and your development as a therapist, but not in direct contact with clients. As per Yorkville University’s practicum guidelines. Indirect hour opportunities that you can log in SONIA include:
All preparation activities directly related to client work
Observing counselling by another professional
Record keeping
Client session progress notes
Client treatment plans (creating and updating)
Client discharge summaries
Psychometric assessment (with little to no client interaction)
Case conference/staff meeting participation
Consultation (with professionals at practicum site)
In-service training offered by site

Yes, midway through practicum, all students are given the opportunity to interview for a contract position and explore future employment with Fancy Therapy.

A minimum of 1 dyadic supervision hour per week is required to be considered an active week. Over the course of your placement you will require some individual sessions. The schedule is to be discussed and agreed upon with your external supervisor.
If selected, we will connect you with experienced CRPO-qualified clinical supervisors at Upstream Counselling.
They offer individual, dyadic and group supervision.

We do not recommend taking time off, especially during your first semester as being present during the initial months is important to support the process of building your caseload.
With that said, while we cannot guarantee extended time off we strive to accommodate up to two weeks.
